Dragon*Con Art Show Buyer and Attendee Orientation

We would like to cordially invite you to be a part of the 2008 Dragon*Con Art Show. The Dragon*Con Art Show is a very large and diverse event. It is a very active and exciting function. Art is all about capturing new ideas in one form or another. It's about doing something no one has ever done before. One of our goals is to make every attendee that visits the art show say "WOW, I never thought of that before!"

Here's another point. Art is the beginning of many of the creations you as a sci-fi, fantasy, horror, space fan have come to love and cherish over the years. Many of the game developers, writers, movie directors and other creators were in one way or another inspired by the type of art work we have in our art show. Your active participation in the art show helps to start a new wave of creativity for future works. Now let's look at what's inside the Dragon*Con Art Show.

The One-of-a-Kind Doll Department - The Doll Department is a collection of dolls, each one completely unique and hand-made, bringing to life many amazing characters.

The Art Gallery - In the main art show room the majority of the space is used by the art gallery. The art gallery consists of all the hanging panels (over 400), 3-D freestanding art in the middle of the room, and all tables not in use by one of the artist bazaars along the perimeter walls. Please don't feel rushed. Take the time to look at each piece. All artwork will have a piece ID sheet with prices and places to write bids.

The Print Shop - Adjacent to the art gallery is the print shop featuring limited edition prints from artists in the show. These items are available for the marked price.

Art on Demand Department - Art the way you want it! Wouldn't it be great to be able to have a piece of 2D art in the size you want and printed on the medium of your choice? With the Art on Demand department you can do just that. Choose art from your favorite participating artist, pick the medium you want it printed on and place your order. The art will be printed and shipped to you after the convention. Available print styles and their prices are listed here.

The Artists' Bazaar - The Artists' Bazaar is a special area for artists to present merchandise related to their art and is located in the main art exhibition room. The pieces range from unusual and exotic original jewelry to hand-thrown prints. The artists themselves will present these and may even personalize these items for you. These bazaar tables are located around the perimeter of the main Art Show room.

Art Show Programming - Do you want to learn how artists make these wonderful creations? How about watching artists in drawing contests? Or, if you are an artist, you can also learn many tips and tricks to help improve and market your art. The Art Show has a huge variety of programming covering topics of interest for both the attendee and the artist. Art Show programming is located in the Hyatt, a few doors down from the main Art Show room.

The Art Show Art Auctions - So you found a piece of work that you really must take home. But when you went to buy it someone had already put a bid on it. Now what? From the time the Art Show opens on Friday until Sunday 6 pm you can write bids on the bid sheets attached to art pieces in the art gallery. This period is known as the Silent Auction. If any item gets 5 bids during the Silent Auction it will go to the Voice Auction on Monday (check the schedule for exact time). The voice auction operates like a traditional auction. Now you must go to the voice auction and win that piece at all costs! The art auction isn't just for the buyers but it's also great entertainment. From the auctioneers build up the pace of the bids to the buyers who can battle it out in an exhaustive contest.

Art Show Buyer Rules

  1. ONLY BID MONITORS CAN REMOVE PIECE ID BID SHEETS AND PUT THEM BACK. NO EXCEPTIONS, NO MATTER WHAT!
  2. Bidder numbers are required to write a bid on a Piece ID Bid Sheet, to buy art in the art auction or if you want to buy art in the Art on Demand section. These bidder numbers are available at the Bidder Registration Desk right outside the Art Show, at the Art on Demand display and the cashiers desk. This is your personal Art Show ID. Bid numbers are FREE!! You will get a receipt when you get your bid number. This receipt validates the bid number. Your badge number IS NOT your bidder number.
  3. You must be 18 years of age to obtain a bid number.
  4. Bidding Hours of the Silent Auction: From the time the Art Show opens on Friday until Sunday 6 pm you can write bids on the bid sheets attached to art pieces in the art gallery. This time is known as the Silent Auction. If any item gets 5 bids during the Silent Auction it will go to the Voice Auction on Monday (check the schedule for exact time). The voice auction operates like a traditional auction. Anyone with a bid number can bid in both the Silent and Voice Auction.
  5. Written Bidding: All art in the Art Gallery eligible for sale in the auction will have a Piece ID Bid Sheet attached. Included on this sheet is the following.
  6. When you bid on an item, PRINT your name, bidder number, and bid on the first space available on that item's Piece ID Bid Sheet.
  7. After 6 pm on Sunday if the piece does not have 5 bids then the person with the highest bid is obligated to buy the piece at that price. Pieces that receive 5 bids will go to the voice auction on Monday (see schedule for time and location). If you have written a bid during the silent auction or are interested in participating in the voice auction, please check back with the Art Show. Art will not be removed from its displayed location unless it has been sent to the voice auction or purchased by the winning bidder, so if you've bid on a piece, you can check to see if you've won it by returning to the location at which you bid on it.
  8. Please DO NOT BID IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO HONOR YOUR BID! Your written bid is the same as a contract agreeing to buy that item at that price. MARKED OUT BIDS ARE STILL BINDING!
  9. You may claim purchased art anytime during the show, but all purchases must be claimed by 4 PM on Monday. Any buyer who does not collect art they have bid on will have collections procedures instituted against them after the show. This uncollected art is called abandoned art. If Dragon*Con mails any abandoned art, the buyer is responsible for the shipping and insurance for the artwork.
  10. Print shop items are priced as marked and may be purchased anytime.
  11. All purses, packages, and cameras will be sealed in a bag by security while you view the art. Any bags with the seal broken will be inspected by security.
  12. No food, drink, smoking or cameras allowed in the Art Show without special permission.
  13. If you want your purchased Art Gallery artwork shipped you must make arrangements either with the attending artist, the hotel you are staying at, or by some other means (see below for ideas). Dragon*Con will not ship any art for you.
  14. All purchases are subject to Georgia State Sales Tax to be paid by the purchaser.
  15. A $20 fine will be imposed on all NSF checks.
  16. Attention Parents and Guardians: It is the policy of Dragon*Con to allow artistic nudity into the art show. If you have minors with you we suggest that you walk through the show first to see if there are any works you wish to steer minors clear of.
